The Norwegian Golf Federation (NGF) was founded in 1948. Today NGF has 122.000 memberships, twice as many as in 1997. This makes the federation the third biggest of all sport federations in Norway. Only football and skiing is bigger.

During the 1990s the golfsport has boosted with more or less 20 per cent new memberships yearly in Norway. In the beginning of the new century the growth has been under 10 percent. Today 12,7 percent of the members are children under 18 years old and 27,3 percent are women.

There is a great demand for new courses in Norway, especially around the capital Oslo where the capacity is only 40 percent.
